Greetings,
I am pleased and delighted that you have found your way here. I would
like to share something of myself so that you may have a clearer sense
of who I am. I am primarily of Irish descent, a 3rd generation native
of Southern California, mother of two, and grandmother of one. Favorite
things to do when not sharing NVC with others are long, slow walks
on the beach, taking in the salt air; creating beauty via gardening;
flower arranging, sunrises, and traveling in Ireland.
I believe my whole life
has been a journey towards this powerful process called Compassionate
Communication (aka Nonviolent Communication or NVC). It was introduced
to me about three years ago. Once I read the first five pages of Marshall
Rosenberg's book, Nonviolent Communication, A Language of Compassion,
I knew I had found what I had long sought, a way in which I could
share what was alive in me without suggesting anyone else was responsible.
Additionally, I now have a way to discover if I've been heard accurately.
And then there is empathy. My ability to listen to others and truly
hear what is alive in them has given me new understanding and clarity.
I know we can all get our needs met and love the tools NVC has given
me for going there. For all of this I am truly grateful.
Since that introduction,
I have immersed myself in aggressive study and learning of the
process.
I have attended two IITs (10-day International Intensive Training)
lead by Marshall and other Certified Trainers, an advanced training,
and many practice groups. I have co-facilitated in many basics series
of classes at Santa Barbara City College, specific full- and half-day
workshops topic (i.e. - Self Empathy, Anger, and Conflict Resolution
to name a few), and introductions to NVC. I am now living my life's
dream in that I am sharing NVC with others, working daily staying
centered within myself and listening for what is alive in others.
Rodger and I created Communication
from the Heart, as our way to offer to others this beautiful process
developed by Marshall B. Rosenberg, Ph.D. For me, learning to listen
from the heart (putting on those giraffe ears and keeping them on)
as well as learning to express myself through feelings and needs has
brought me back to where I began, Love.
I look forward to meeting
you and if you choose, to working with you on your journey from judgment
and self-criticism to empathy and Love.
